Homeschooling!

Another year of homeschooling has begun in the Lewis' house. It has been a long road of fighting with God about this, but now I am so thrilled with the opportunity to be able to teach my kids the things I want to teach them and to shelter them (for now anyways) the things I don't want them to be exposed to. Last year I taught preschool to Zachary. I had a curriculum all picked out and ready to order and then Adam lost his job. We didn't know how long he was going to be out of work and we both knew that a $200 curriculum wasn't necessary for a preschooler. Needless to say my thought of homeschooling Zachary w/o a planned out curriculum didn't thrill me much. To be honest, I was really mad about the whole situation. I actually hated teaching Zachary school for the first 2 weeks. It wasn't working, I was depress about the job lost, I wanted that curriculum. After numerous nights of prayer, I decided that I needed to do some research and find some sites that would help me at home. There are so many printables out there for preschoolers, it is unbelievable. I finally found a site I loved and started all over. Once I had a plan and somewhat of a curriculum, I was more at peace with everything. Zachary learned so much last year. He is now able recognize all of his letters and give me the sounds of each.

Once we finished last year, it didn't take me long to start planning for this year. Can you tell yet that I like to plan? Well, I did tons and tons of research this time around for a curriculum for Zachary and for some new and different printables for Lindsay. After numerous hours of research and borrowing friend's books, I decided to go with Alpha Omega Horizons. I really love it. We are only in the first week, but so far it has been great.

In Sept. Zachary will start his co-op school. He will attend CCA one day a week learning social studies, science, and language arts. I am really excited for this opportunity and can't wait to see what his teacher has in store for him. He is also excited go to his "real" school.

Enjoy some pictures of our first day of school.

Zachary and Lindsay standing by our school room. This is where we have our mini circle time. We go over the calendar, weather, season, learn a bible verse, and read a story.

Brandon playing with cars. My goal is try to keep the little ones in the kitchen while I teach school to the two older ones.

Nicholas wanted me to take a picture of his "school book". I think he was feeling a little left out.
